From Legacy to Next Gen Giving: Transforming Fundraising with Video
This presentation delves into Housing Up’s strategic use of video to overcome challenges related to donor engagement, social media presence, and fundraising effectiveness. Co-led by Housing Up’s Chief Development & Communications Director and the founder of DMB Pictures, this session is a practical guide to leveraging video for nonprofit organizations, showcasing real-world examples and actionable strategies. The presentation will cover the following key areas:
-
Understanding the Challenges: Examining the challenges faced by Housing Up - and many nonprofits - prior to implementing a video-centric strategy, including an aging donor and volunteer base, inconsistent social media engagement, and limitations with traditional in-person storytelling.
-
The Power of Video as Connection: Exploring how video was used to connect with younger audiences, build stronger community connections and prepare for generational wealth shifts to younger demographics. We will show specific examples of video that helped create a more engaging online presence and share our techniques for how we craft compelling stories.
-
Video as a Tool for Inspiration: Discussing how video was used to amplify the impact of families’ stories, challenge misconceptions about homelessness, and inspire action among donors and volunteers. This section will address the challenges of traditional in-person storytelling and how video offers a more accessible and impactful alternative. We will offer guidance on how to work with an outside production team and also offer tips on ways to do it yourself.
-
Video as a Fundraising Catalyst: Demonstrating how video transformed Housing Up’s fundraising efforts, leading to a more streamlined annual benefit, increased donations, and greater overall fundraising success. With a larger younger donor and volunteer base, we formed a young professional board that has outfundraised our actual board of directors. This section will cover strategies for repurposing video content and building long-term partnerships with video production teams.
