Making the Development Client-Consulting Relationship Work!

With nonprofits still needing to secure funds despite new, unprecedented challenges brought on by COVID-19, the nation’s reckoning with systemic racism, and the economy, many nonprofits are seeking out development consultants to bolster fundraising efforts. But sometimes, these engagements fall short, leaving nonprofits feeling they wasted precious time and resources.

This roundtable discussion will bring together consultants and senior nonprofit leaders to share how clients and organizations can jointly achieve a successful, transformational, inclusive engagement. Come learn from Mina Devadas, Chief Development Officer at the Progressive Multiplier Fund, Tycely Williams, Chief Development Officer at America’s Promise Alliance and past AFP-DC president, and Edit Reizes and Diane Schwartz, co-founders of S+R Consulting.

The panel will cover:

  • When to bring in a consultant
  • Where to find consultants
  • How to determine the right set of deliverables
  • How to measure success...and not only in dollars raised
  • How to work together
  • What to do if there’s a problem
  • How to successfully work together
  • How to budget and make the case to your leadership and board

Participants will receive a template “checklist” for conceptualizing a potential engagement and crafting a scope of work agreement. Edit and Diane founded S+R Consulting in 2010 and have 70+ client engagements to draw upon for this session.
