AFP/DC 2008-2009 Election

MESSAGE FROM THE VP, GOVERNANCE

Dear AFP/DC Members:

Thank you for taking the time to cast you ballot for the 2008-2009 Board of Directors Election for AFP/DC!

You will vote on two things:

1. Officers and nominees to the Board of Directors of the DC Metro Chapter for the 2008-2009 year.
   
2. Acceptance of revised Bylaws for the Chapter, (Download a PDF of the AFP/DC Revised By-laws)
   

We request that you return your ballot no later than Friday, June 30, 2008.

A Note on the revised Bylaws

The revisions have been mandated by AFP International in order to bring Chapter Bylaws in line with changes in the Governance of the parent Association. In the document that you will be receiving, new wording is signaled with underscoring, and discarded language is shown crossed out.

Among the highlights of the revisions:

• Generally, less specificity than before, with specifics to be spelled out in an accompanying set of new Policies & Procedures that can be revised more easily than the Bylaws as the need arises. Policies & Procedures will be adopted by the Chapter's board and do not require a vote by the membership.
  
• Reduction in the number of Chapter Vice Presidents to four, which in the new Policies & Procedures will be identified as Membership, Education, Communications, and Resource Development. The responsibilities of the VP for Diversity will be taken over by a Diversity Committee Chair appointed by the President. The responsibilities of the VP, Governance will be reassigned to other officers.
  
• Changes in how a quorum is defined, in carrying out the business of both the Chapter Board and the general Membership of the Chapter.
  
• Reversion to a Calendar Year Fiscal Year for the Chapter.
  
• Changes in the term of service permitted for both Chapter Board members and Chapter Officers.
