E-BAG September
2007
E-Bag Sponsored by

MESSAGE FROM THE
PRESIDENT
Dear AFP/DC members:
It appears that the summer months have flown by yet
again. For many of us, September marks the beginning
of many things: a new school year, the return of heavy
commuter traffic, the start of high season as we forge
ahead to meet goals and close gifts by year-end. As
we get back into our routines and work under pressure
and deadlines and do our very best to raise those ever
important dollars for our organizations, let's
try and always keep in mind why we are doing this in
the first place: to further the important missions of
our non-profit community.
Reminder: The
6th Annual National Capital Philanthropy Day (NCPD)
Luncheon and Awards Presentation will take place
on November 1st from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm at the
Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.
In addition to the presentation of Outstanding Philanthropist,
Outstanding Fundraising Volunteer, Outstanding Corporate
Partner, Outstanding Foundation Partner, and Outstanding
Fundraising Professional awards, nonprofit organizations
have the unique opportunity to “Honor Your Own”
-- a great way to honor your organization's valuable
staff, volunteers, board and donors. The deadline for
“Honor
Your Own” is October 1st, so please visit
our AFP/DC web site for more information and download
your forms.
You can also support philanthropy by becoming a sponsor
of National Capital Philanthropy Day. There are many
sponsorship
opportunities available, so please visit our website
for more information or call the AFP/DC office at 202-547-0155.
Let's remember that as good fundraisers we not
only ask, but we also give.
Grace Hong
President 2007-2008

2007-2008 MEMBER DIRECTORY UPDATE - due September 14
Remember we use the AFP International database when
creating our chapter directory; so make sure to review
your record online at www.afpnet.org
by 3:00 PM on September 14 to be included in the 2007-2008
Directory which will be delivered this Fall.
• Go to "Quicklinks: Address Change"
to verify your address. You now have the option to have
a primary and an alternate address. We will use the
primary address in the directory. Your LOG IN ID is
your member number. Your PASSWORD is your last name.
• Go to "Quicklinks: Demographics"
and update your profile. Answering all the fields would
be ideal, but please make sure to at least answer the
first field "Year Entered Profession" and
the last field "Type of Organization". Since
we sort the directory three ways - by last name, by
organization name, and by organization type, it is important
to select a "Type of Organization" so
we can sort your organization by the proper category.
• Remember to complete your update before
3:00 p.m. on September 14.
If you have questions about the 2007-2008 Member Directory
and Resource Guide, please contact Mary Lou Swiscoski
at 202-547-0155.

Champions or Challenge?”

time, and their emotional investment. How do we help
our boards, staff, and selves communicate?
Speakers:
Jane Lang, Trustee, Sprenger Lang Foundation

Corps
Lisa Nitze, Vice President, Ashoka
Michael Wojcik, CFRE, Senior Major Gift Officer, American
Red Cross
