MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear AFP/DC Members:

Greetings friends and colleagues! The cherry blossoms have come and gone. I have taken an extended vacation in sunny California. So I am here to tell you that summer is almost upon us and that as you plan your summer, don't forget that AFP/DC has lots in store for you this summer! There is a revised calendar of programming on the chapter website now.

BRIDGE CONFERENCE 2007: I just had a preview of the early bird registration brochure yesterday for the Bridge Conference. If you didn't know, early bird registration deadline is May 30. So don't delay! Register now. New content is being added to the website all the time. Check it out at www.bridgeconf.org. Many more details about the Bridge Conference are in the E-Bag below.

CONVERSATION & CONNECTIONS: In this E-Bag you will see an invitation for a joint event with AFP/DC and the Center on Black Philanthropy on May 30. I hope you will join us for what I think will be an outstanding event. In our continuing efforts to be a leader in our region's philanthropic community, I carry the passion and commitment of many of chapter presidents who came before me, that a rich philanthropic community is a diverse one. We made great strides in that area over the past several years with National Capital Philanthropy Day by making it a community-wide celebration of giving and involving up to 16 diverse convening organizations in the event. Our scholarship program for this year's Bridge Conference has conducted targeted outreach and has earmarked some scholarships specifically for persons working as development professionals in diverse communities in our region. Thanks to Lisa Boccia for leading this new initiative! And now, AFP/DC and the Center for Black Philanthropy are coming together as two of the leading organizations representing fundraising and philanthropy in the region for this networking event. Thanks to Val Broadie, Vice President of Diversity, for coordinating this event. I encourage you to join us!

All the best to each of you,

Jeff Kost
