MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear AFP/DC Members:

ANNUAL MEETING AND VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION: We are taking time this month to celebrate some of the accomplishments of the AFP/DC chapter at our annual meeting on Thursday, December 14, 2006 at the Army Navy Club. If you have not made your reservation yet, I hope you will do so now. We have had quite a year to rejoice and I so I hope you will join the AFP/DC board of directors as we report on some of the highlights. This is also the opportunity to say "thank you" to the backbone of our chapter, our members and our volunteers who support the activities of the chapter and make our education, networking, mentoring, and membership activities so rich and vital to our profession and to the community we serve.

With two outstanding events, the Bridge Conference to Integrated Marketing and Fundraising and National Capital Philanthropy Day, as well as several very active and vibrant committees working all year long, we have several volunteers who deserve our gratitude and appreciation. I hope that this will also inspire those of you who are members who have not yet taken advantage of a volunteer opportunity within the chapter, or perhaps not lately, to volunteer for one of the many opportunities the chapter has to offer. It could be one of your New Year's resolutions!

BRIDGE CONFERENCE 2007: But we just had a Bridge Conference, is that what you're saying to yourself? I am proud to announce that the AFP/DC board of directors voted at its October board meeting to partner again in 2007 to partner with the Direct Marketing Association of Washington (DMAW) to hold the Second Annual Bridge to Integrated Marketing and Fundraising Conference in July 2007. AFP/DC is currently recruiting leadership for committees including: Education; Marketing and Communications; Hospitality and Logistics; Sponsorship and Exhibits; and Social, Entertainment and Destination. This conference needs the talent and expertise of a number of our members to be as successful as we were last year. It's a hard-working, fun-loving group to work with. I can attest to that from my experience with last year's leadership committee. So if you liked what you saw at the 2006 conference, please consider volunteering 2007. If you have an interest in any of these committees, please email Grace Hong, President-Elect of the Chapter at ghong@cnmc.org. In her role as President-Elect, Grace will be serving as the board liaison to the 2007 Conference. Thanks Grace!

AFP INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IN DALLAS: Speaking of conferences, the AFP 44th International Conference on Fundraising will be held March 25- March 28, 2007 in Dallas, Texas. Advance registration rates are currently in effect. The AFP/DC chapter is in the process of planning a networking event for chapter members who are attending the International Conference, so stay tuned for details about getting together in the Lone Star State!

AFP /DC CAREER CENTER: Did you know that you can post your resume for free on the AFP/DC Career Center's site (http://careers.afpdc.org/)? The AFP/DC Career Center site continues to be a valuable resource for employers posting jobs to the site, but to-date, few job seekers have posted resumes there. You can post your resume confidentially, so no one (including your colleagues or current employer) can see that you have posted your resume, without permission. As of the end of November, the Career Center site statistics were: 19 jobs posted; 37 resumes posted; 167 employers registered; over $29,000 in revenue generated (AFP/DC receives 50%). If you have any comments or suggestions on the Career Center site, please send them to info@afpdc.org .

ANNUAL MEETING, VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION & HOLIDAY LUNCHEON - December 14

Join your colleagues for AFP/DC's annual holiday celebration. It's a festive occasion, a wonderful chance to recognize our chapter's volunteers, and an excellent networking opportunity. It always sells out, so get your registration in today!

As in years past, AFP/DC will collect contributions to support a local nonprofit organization. This year, AFP/DC will be supporting Fisher House, which supports America 's military in their time of need, by providing "a home away from home" that enables family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful time -- during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury. They operate 6 houses in the metro area - 3 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center , 2 at the Naval Medical Center in Bethesda and 1 at Andrews Air Force Base.

SPECIAL NOTE REGARDING CONTRIBUTIONS: Unrestricted, cash contributions will be most appreciated. Checks can be made out to "Fisher House." Due to their limited staff, in-kind gifts, such as toys, are not encouraged. Gifts cards for families staying at the houses are very welcome. They suggest stores such as Wal-Mart, Target, or bank gift cards, such as Amex or Bank of America. Gift cards to restaurant chains also work well. They also organize a frequent-flyer miles donation program called "Hero Miles." More information can be found on their website.

LOCATION : The Army and Navy Club (901 17th Street, NW Washington, DC )
METRO : Farragut North and West
TIME : 11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Registration and Networking; 12:00 p.m. - 12:30 p.m.
