E-BAG OCTOBER 2006 Dear AFP/DC Members: THANK YOU: Two AFP/DC board members submitted resignations last month due to a move and to added responsibilities at work. Kathy Bricker, of the Ocean Conservancy, who has moved to Michigan, was a wonderful board member who will be missed, although her emails and volunteer work continue. Her work on the Membership Committee ensured that every new member of the chapter got a personal welcome call. Alicia Figueiredo is another board member who will be missed. Her work at The National Academies is offering more opportunities and so she is stepping down from her role as an AFP/DC board member. I have always appreciated Alicia's quiet yet thoughtful voice at board committees. PHILANTHROPY DAY: I am pleased to announce the Awards Committee selections for the Fifth Annual National Capital Philanthropy Day. AFP/DC chapter will bestow these awards upon the following individuals or organizations:

Kost NCPD HONOR YOUR OWN - deadline extended to October 9 Honor Your Own nominations for National Capital Philanthropy Day are due October 9th from nonprofits that want to recognize and further cultivate their best in the following five categories:
You do not have to be an AFP/DC member to submit an Honor Your Own and your recipient does not have to be an AFP/DC member. The event is for the philanthropic community in the metro DC area and is hosted by AFP/DC. If you have a person or organization who helped to make your philanthropic efforts more successful this year, then the Honor Your Own program is an ideal way for you to say thank you to them. We will include your words of thanks in the program book, include their name on the Power Point, and provide you with a certificate to present to your honoree at the table. Please review the details on the PDF then submit your information via the online registration by October 9, 2006. NCPD SPONSORSHIPS - deadline extended to October 9 Over the past two decades, National Philanthropy Day has become a celebrated occasion in cities across the country, drawing hundreds and even thousands, to celebrate the commitment of those who make a difference in their communities. While many individual organizations honor their own in the greater Washington DC area, this event offers community wide visibility and an opportunity to publicly recognize business, foundation, volunteer and community leaders who are committed to philanthropy. Sponsorships range from $1500 to $10,000 and a list of specific recognition is listed on page three of the Sponsorship Proposal. To Sponsor, register online or fax the form to 202-547-6348 by October 9, 2006. A special thank you to our NCPD Sponsors as of September 30, 2006 PATRON
