Message from the President

I hope that this month's e-newsletter finds you well. Our educational programming got off to a strong start in January with a luncheon on “Family Philanthropy” and a roundtable on "Electronic Communications". Both events were well attended and highly informative.

This month, I'm extremely excited about our collaboration with the National Capital Gift Planning Council to bring you a Half Day Forum on Planned Giving, Thursday, February 16th. You can read more about the program below. The event will be marketed to members of both organizations so it's a great chance to come out and meet some new people.

Also, this month, the Advanced Executives series will feature a breakfast program on Mega Gifts. You'll hear a case study on how one local organization secured a $12 million unrestricted gift.

You made a good decision when you joined AFP. Now make the most of your membership by coming to events and getting more involved. And please continue to share your ideas and suggestions on how we can make your membership experience even more valuable.

I hope to see you at an AFP/DC event soon!

Thank you for your membership.

Kathy Swayze, CFRE
President

Fundraising forum
- February 16
Plan to attend the special jointly-sponsored AFP/DC and National Capital Gift Planning Council Forum

TOPIC:
Session 1 - How to Talk Planned Giving When You're Not an Expert
Session 2 - Tools and Techniques to Help You and Your Leadership Maximize Your Gift Planning Activities

Session 1 - Everyone has the opportunity to plant the seeds of gift giving by bequest, but not everyone has a comfortable and focused way to broach the subject with tact and sensitivity. This presentation will provide some simple tools that can be used every time you're with a donor or friend of your organization.

Session 2 - Helping your boss and your volunteers to be comfortable with talking about planned giving is a real challenge. They need to understand it in down to earth, easy to absorb terms that are meaningful to them. This presentation will show you what to focus on to help make that happen so that they understand that planned giving is not just deferred giving, but a powerful tool to raise sights and outcomes with all of your best friends and donors.
