Dear Colleagues:
It is sad
but true that some members of our profession in the past have
caused scandals that reflect badly on those of us working in the
field today. We are now a profession under a cloud of scrutiny.
This rightful concern about unethical behavior in nonprofits has
caused a new era of criticism in the media and legislation from
government bodies.
The Association
of Fundraising Professionals emphasizes ethics in the practice
of the profession. We must keep open communication and feature
the accountability of our organizations.
The Sarbanes-Oxley
Act (fully The American Competitiveness and Corporate Accountability
Act of 2002) was signed into law on July 30, 2002. This Act will
affect our organizations.
AFP/DC is
pleased to feature Deborah S. Hechinger, CEO and President of
BoardSource, who will inform us just how all of us will be affected.
Make sure you are on the cutting edge of the fundraising profession
by attending our luncheon on March 25.
See you there—
Celia K.
