Welcome from the President
Celia Luxmoore
Chapter President 2004

As your new chapter president, I wish a happy and successful New Year to all members of the Metro DC Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. I am anticipating an organized and profitable year ahead. I am proud and excited to be leading a strong board, and to be working with a well-qualified management team,

Donors are still lacking confidence in the ability of charities to spend donations wisely and to deliver services, according to a recent survey by the Brookings Institution. This diminished confidence in the nonprofit sector, which has been caused by local and national scandals in the field, continues to affect us in our professional lives.

We are challenged by new competition for gifts, the public doubt, and the need to communicate the work of our organizations and the nonprofit sector. AFP/DC will provide services, education, and networking at all levels of experience to our 1,000 members so that we can each give our best for the benefit of those we serve.

In 2004 let us promote our profession and ensure a stronger future for the charitable sector in DC. I look forward to working with you in this essential task.

Celia
