Professional Development

As professional fundraisers facing new challenges everyday, it is important that each of us takes the initiative to manage our own career and personal development. AFP/DC serves as an important resource in developing the skills necessary to meet the needs of our organizations, the non-profit sector, and most important ourselves.

Certification

The CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) is an internationally-valued credential that attests to your knowledge, skills and achievements as a fundraising professional. By becoming certified you show that you look for on-going meaningful professional development and practical ways to evaluate your own work that will help you grow.

A major salary survey conducted in 2003 by AFP, showed that fundraising professionals who are certified earned an average of 23% more than their non-certified counterparts.

For complete information on the certification process and requirements, visit www.cfre.org.

AFP/DC periodically coordinates a study group program for professionals interested in applying for the CFRE credential. If you are interested in participating or leading such a program, contact the Chapter office at info@afpdc.org.

Mentoring

One of the most valuable member benefits that AFP/DC offers to its membership is the Mentoring Program. The purpose of the Mentoring Program is to match experienced development professionals with chapter members who are seeking guidance in their career growth, development experience, or seeking general advice. The program can be particularly helpful to those who fundraise in an environment with limited staff and financial resources.
